With the release of TYPO3 version 14.2, the TYPO3 community has reached the final major milestone ahead of the eagerly awaited Long-Term Support (LTS) release in April 2026. Under the motto ‘Refined Where It Matters’, this sprint release brings numerous improvements to the backend, new marketing tools and technical optimisations for developers.

In this blog post, we take a look at the highlights of the new version.

1. More intuitive editing with the new Context Panel

One of the most striking new features for editors is the Context Panel. Instead of reloading the entire page when editing a content element, as was previously the case, a panel now slides into view from the right.

  • The advantage here is that the page context remains visible in the background, making editing quicker and smoother.
  • If you prefer the classic layout or need more space, you can switch to full-screen view at any time or disable the panel in your user settings.

2. Page Creation Wizard: Improvements to the wizard’s user interface

The process of creating new pages has been completely overhauled. A new step-by-step wizard guides editors through the process of placing new pages exactly where they should be in the page tree. All key fields are immediately visible, which helps to minimise potential errors, particularly when dealing with complex data sets such as news articles.

3. Short URLs directly from the backend

Following the introduction of QR codes in the previous version, TYPO3 14.2 takes things a step further in the area of marketing. The new short URL module allows you to create permanent short URLs for campaigns.

  • Including hit counter
  • Support for SSL enforcement and expiry dates
  • Protection against duplicate links ensures a clean link structure

4. Form Framework takes it to a whole new level

The Form Framework has received a major upgrade to make it even more flexible for professional use:

  • Multi-file upload feature:
Integrators can now add a field that allows website visitors to upload multiple files at once via a single field.
  • Finisher Update:
Notification emails (for finishers) can now be customised directly in the backend without any knowledge of HTML.
  • Forms:
The rich text editor can now be used for text fields in forms.
  • Update from the Form Editor:
Use of WebComponents to improve performance and usability in the form editor for the tree – structured exactly like the page and file tree in the TYPO3 backend
  • Database storage:
Form definitions are now stored in the database by default rather than in YAML files, which simplifies management in cloud environments.
  • Migration:
Integration of the CLI command `form:definition:transfer` for a smooth migration

5. Greater visibility for administrators: Content reports

If you want to know which content elements are actually being used on a website, the new Content Type Usage Report is the perfect tool. Administrators can see at a glance how frequently different element types and fields are used, which makes it much easier to tidy up and optimise TYPO3 installations.

6. Technical highlights for developers

There have been plenty of changes under the bonnet too:

  • Security in Extbase:
With the new attributes ‘#[Authorize]’ and ‘#[RateLimit]’, developers can control access to controller actions directly within the code, thereby helping to prevent potential brute-force attacks.

  • Fluid analysis:
A new CLI command (fluid:analyse) helps to identify errors or outdated syntax in Fluid templates at an early stage.
    • Syntax errors, such as the incorrect nesting of ViewHelpers
    • Use of undefined ViewHelpers or without a defined namespace
    • Use of invalid variable names
    • Use of deprecated ViewHelpers

  • New ViewHelper:
Tools such as RenderContentArea offer greater flexibility when rendering content.

System requirements for TYPO3 version 14.2:

  • PHP 8.2, 8.3, 8.4 or even 8.5

So the way is now clear for the LTS :)

The feature freeze for TYPO3 version 14.2 is now in effect. This means that no new features will be added until the LTS release in April. The focus is now entirely on stability, bug fixes and the final release.

Now is the perfect time for agencies and developers to test extensions and prepare projects for version 14. On 21 April 2026, the TYPO3 v14 LTS release will be officially launched with celebrations around the world.
