TYPO3 website relaunch for SAMSON AG
Smart in flow control
SAMSON is active wherever fluids are in motion: oils, gases, vapours and chemical substances. Valves are the company’s core business. For more than 100 years, SAMSON has been setting trends, driving developments and bringing innovations to market. The company has played a key role in shaping the evolution of the control valve from an analogue component to a smart control valve.
Requirement:
In addition to the technical implementation of the product catalogue, the client’s website was to undergo a technical overhaul as part of a responsive relaunch, based on the TYPO3 content management system. At the start of this project, a complex database architecture had to be created for each product group. The aim was to quickly narrow down the results to find the right product. In addition, extensive documentation had to be made available and enquiries from prospective customers interested in specific products had to be collected.
Solution:
The highly complex product structure was at the heart of the responsive relaunch. By using TYPO3 and a comprehensive Solr configuration, we were able to give the products a clear structure. Particular attention was paid to the development of the document download section, the presentation of the sales offices and the wishlists. For the design development, we relied on the t3kit package to achieve responsiveness quickly. The site was SEO-optimised from the outset and built with an interface to the internal DMS.

Consolidation of subsidiaries
Requirement:
Another requirement from the client was to integrate the subsidiaries into the existing TYPO3 installation. The main focus here was on displaying the products in the correct context, particularly with regard to the relevant company, market, country and language. In addition, the maps, contact forms and news sections were also adapted so that they could be integrated by all subsidiaries.
Solution:
First, a workshop was held with several representatives from SAMSON and dkd. Following this, a feasibility study was carried out and a prototype was developed. As this proved successful, work continued on implementing the integration. The entire project was carried out using an agile approach and in close consultation with the client.
The client was given extensive advice regarding the technical implementation. A new design was not created, as the client wished to continue using the existing website design.
TYPO3 upgrade
We recently carried out a TYPO3 upgrade for our client, SAMSON AG. The aim was to ensure that all functions continued to work without any restrictions. After first updating the TYPO3 core, we then gradually updated the extensions – some of which were developed in-house and others sourced externally – to bring them up to date. All visual and functional tests were carried out entirely by our development team. Furthermore, the t3kit extension and the catalog extension were upgraded, and the EXT:solr extension was updated to version 9.
