Online shop with Shopify for Spessartbrett

The customer Spessartbrett's core business is the handcrafted production of wooden cutting boards. For each board sold, the company plants an oak tree in the Spessart region, which is its unique selling point. The products are rather high-priced and unique, and great importance is attached to customer service. Great importance is also attached to social media and marketing, as the customer wants to grow in this area.

Requirement:

The requirement for the e-commerce project was to create an online shop with a connection to an app for invoicing and a DHL app for creating shipping labels.

In addition, a newsletter was to be created and support provided in marketing and SEO matters. This also included activating the Facebook shop and Google Shopping.

Many requirements only arose during the course of the project, which is relatively typical. In this case, for example, it was the back-in-stock function, which informs customers by e-mail as soon as a sought-after product that was sold out is available again. In addition, a gallery was created to convey moods to customers and draw attention to events.

Solution:

The new shop was implemented using Shopify. This also gave us, as an agency, the opportunity to familiarise ourselves with the system. 
The e-commerce system comes with built-in tracking, evaluation and statistics. For example, there are evaluations of the conversion rate, online shop sessions by social media source and the rate of returning customers, to name just a few. There is also an integrated blog.

The previous blog was migrated to the new system via an app.
The Shopify backend is editor-friendly, so it's easy to find your way around once you understand the structure. Shopify also has a storefront editor. Shopify works with its own template language, Liquid, similar to Smarty and Twig. The developer language is Ruby on Rails. 
Shopify takes an app-based approach: resources are loaded from outside to provide extensions. Apps are also written for custom extensions. Shopify itself comes with a number of cookies and functions that slow down the website somewhat. The good thing is that it works with micro services, which means that individual features can be customised. There is an extensive template structure consisting of pages, sections and snippets.

SEO

Shopify provides its merchants with many SEO tools free of charge, and the themes are already prepared for on-page optimisation. With Seobility, we were able to reduce technical SEO messages as far as possible and advised the customer on editorial on-page optimisation. The ongoing editorial work is now in the hands of the customer.
 

Marketing

We supported the customer with social media consulting and worked with them to create Facebook ads, optimise their Instagram account and tackle various other issues.

The relaunch required the creation and/or adaptation of graphics and icons. Minor adjustments were also made to the web design, and we provided advice and graphic support for the images for the online shop (product images) and social media channels (posts, header images).

We are proud of this! For the Shopify web project »Spessartbrett«, dkd was awarded the »DEUTSCHEN AGENTURPREIS 2021« in the category »B2C Online Shop Relaunch«.
A total of 197 agencies took part in the competition and a total of 985 evaluations were made in the individual categories. We are delighted that the crystal trophy now adorns our office.
